Clicks Keyboard Review
I miss the days of BlackBerry and Flips that had physical keyboards. There is just something so much more satisfying about typing when it's on a physical keyboard compared to a digital one. Plus, though I have no evidence for this, I think that typing on a physical keyboard has less mistakes overall. So when I saw an ad for Clicks keyboard, I thought that this is the product that will end my woes in an all digital keyboard age! Unfortunately my hopes were dashed, but let's get into it š

First negative point for Clicks, it was a pre-order for an item that literally didn't exist. This is a problem for many reasons. One of them being is that you don't actually know what the item you are ordering is look or feel like besides for the commercials and even then, it's still a prototype. Another issue is that it takes FOREVER to actually get the item. If you haven't figured out by now, I'm impatient. If I buy something, my preference is that it would teleport to me the instant the money is exchanged. So with orders like this where there is no particular timeline for when I will actually get the product, it is challenging for me to swallow. On top of that, Clicks didn't really handle the rollout well with the date pushbacks and unclear expectations of how it would be distributed. For a while I was was keeping an eye on the reddit to maintain an idea of what was going on, but it was driving me crazy so I just forgot I bought it then was happily surprised when the tracking came through. For context, I ordered it at the end of January and it arrived in hand at the end of July. In a world of two day delivery, this is a looooooong wait. Thinking of ordering it today to avoid the pre-order wait? Well you are going to be waiting too because even though the product is being manufactured as we speak, the pre-orders are STILL not all shipped out so you're going to be waiting no matter what.
So was it worth the wait? I sorta already spoiled it so the short answer is no. I really really wanted to like this thing. It's something I feel as though I would have really liked. But the issues outweigh the usefulness of the thing. My main issue is that it is HEAVY. In a world of constantly slimming phones, to add a blocky, heavy external battery is a large ask. It more than doubled the weight of my phone pocket feel and that is just unacceptable. I saw this mentioned online that Clicks should have refrained from putting a wireless charging battery on it and I have to agree, I would have much preferred a lighter option without the battery feature. Maybe in another iteration?
The keyboard feature is great, but putting it on the back of a phone makes it very challenging to actually use it as intended. The keyboard is heavy then the phone balancing on the mag safe ring is too heavy so it doesn't have the seamless impact I was wishing for that older phones with built-in keyboards had. Could you use it as a external keyboard that would easily switch from several devices? Sure. That is probably the strongest aspect of the Clicks Keyboard, it can pair up to nine devices. Is it seamless? No. Might it be fixed in the future? Probably! So if you need a tiny wireless keyboard to switch between several different devices then this is your thing! If not, it's an expensive pocket weight and I wouldn't recommend.
BUT I hope Clicks takes notes and releases a better version that takes away the battery aspect to make it lighter (maybe a slide out option more akin to the Flip of old?)
Tori's verdict: Skip it š
