Fidget Toy Round Up

If you saw my review for the Conquering fidget ring (which you should totally check out, see it here: https://www.torisrar.com/post/conquering-fidget-rings), you know I'm always interested in finding the best fidget stuff. My continued search has led me to the latest products, Specks Geode the magnetic fidget sphere and Basic Mind metal ball push-pop scroll and spin fidget toy. Is either of these the one true fidget toy I've been looking for? Let's see!

Specks Geode

My first gripe, I opened the box and the pieces fell out everywhere. The box slides open and the pieces aren't held into the box so, despite my natural clumsiness, this was a recipe for disaster. Though they didn't break which I guess is a testament to their sturdiness.

One of the main reasons I got this product is that the pretty ombre blue coloring of it caught my eye. It is very pretty in person, but the plastic is light weight and feels a tad cheap. I don't know, for a $30 product I expected more substantial material I guess.

The Specks Geode suffers the same problem that a lot of fidget toys suffer from, it's a one trick pony. It advertises "100+ combinations and counting", but I found the product naturally gravitates towards two things. Stacking the pentagons and making the geode/ball shape. Can you make more shapes or fiddle with them differently? Sure. But, due to the nature of magnets, they attract and repel each other so these two forms are the only ones that the Specks seem to want to do. All in all, it gets old pretty fast.

So I mess with my fidget toys during meetings thus I need them to be quiet. These range from not very quiet to pretty loud. When stacking them and connecting them via the magnets, they are not very quiet and make a sort of clicking sound. Then when you try to tear down the geode shape, they make this loud clacking sound as the pieces smack against each other. I tried repeatedly to quietly play with them and it was no use, they make noise no matter how gently I mess with them.

Overall, I would not recommend the Specks Geode. It is too expensive for what it is and is a pretty basic fidget.

Basic Mind Metal Ball Push-Pop

This one was about the same price on Amazon, but offered a coupon code thus it was about 30% off. Score one for the Push-Pop! In ordering something on Amazon you are never sure if you are going to get a diamond in the ruff or straight trash. This time, I got a diamond 💎

It comes in a little carrying pouch, which I think is a very nice touch. The magnets holding in the balls are very strong so it's not going to fling balls all over the place if you drop it or when fiddling with it.

It does make little click sounds as you push the balls in and out of the body, but it's not distracting or loud. Although, it is not silent so something to consider.

Where the Geode has a plastic body with small magnetic balls, the Push-Pop is an all metal body with magnetic balls which seems to be higher quality.

Where the Geode is a one trick pony that gets boring after thirty seconds, the Push-Pop takes a simple premise and scratches that fidget itch.

I don't mean to compare the two, but since I bought them so close together and the differences are so shocking it's hard not to.

I would definitely recommend the Basic Mind's Metal Ball Push-Pop and will include the link here so you know which one I recommend without getting lost on Amazon.

Is it the one true fidget that will replace all other fidgets and end my conquest? No. But it's a quality fidget toy that will find a home on my desk 😁 What's your favorite fidget toy? Let me know down in the comments and it might be featured here in the future!
