Protein Snacks Roundup

My overall diet tends towards keto and I spotted a few new protein snacks that looked interesting, thus I tried them so you don't have to wonder which are worth a buy and which are a skip it!

Pure Protein Zig Zag Cake:

These are obviously protein bars inspired by Zebra cakes, which are objectively good snack cakes. I had high hopes based on my opinion of Zebra cakes and the picture on the box.

First off, they are not shaped roundly like the package shows. They are bars, like all the rest, and small ones at that. When you think of Zebra cakes, you think of soft and fluffy cakes. These bars are not Zebra cake soft, but they are softer than the average protein bar. They are a tad chewy, which was a bit off-putting due to my preconceived idea of what this bar would be based on my experiences with Zebra cakes. The taste is...fine. It’s alright. I would reach for it if I was hungry, but probably won’t go out of my way to buy it again. Plus, the expectation of a Zebra cake really set a high expectation, which was promptly dashed when they were just meh.

Wilde Protein Chips Barbeque:

The gimmick with these is that, instead of potatoes, they use chicken to mimic a potato chip. They are okay. The barbeque flavor isn't really strong, which sucks because the funky taste of the chicken chip leaves much to be desired. I think if they really blasted these things with barbeque seasoning then they might be better. They aren't very crispy and don't scratch the chip itch that I was looking for. You are better off going with Legendary chips if you want a more chip like experience without a lot of carbs. Definitely not going to buy again, but I'll eat the rest of the bag eventually so there is that.

Fitcrunch Caramel Peanut:

Nasty. Took one bite and gagged. It has that awful chalky taste some protein bars have and with no real flavor whatsoever. Caramel? No. Peanut? Nah. Chocolate? Nope. Will donate these because I hate them and they will rot if they stay in my house. Hard pass.

Protein Candy Berry Punch and Sour Berry Blast:

I got two different flavors from the brand Protein Candy, sour berry blast and berry punch. The berry punch was just...off putting. The texture was not good, not gummy like instead more like a solid piece of fat from meat. Bleh. Also the berry punch had zero flavor, which did not help with the gross texture. Didn't finish the bag despite returning to it several times to see if anything changed. The sour berry blast was better, but not much. They weren't sour at all. The slight berry flavoring helped to cover up the weird texture so that I was able to eat the whole bag. For the cost of these things, I expected much more. Also you have to buy a full cast, which is pretty wasteful since I'm going to throw them out since they were not good and definitely not worth the calories. Do not recommend at all.

Barebells Protein Bars Caramel Cashew:

These were actually good! When I took the first bite, I could have sworn that this was a Milky Way with the caramel goodness and soft chewy nature of the bar. Getting half way through the bar brought me back to reality that this is a protein bar and not in fact a candy bar due to the chewy protein that wasn't being covered with chocolate and caramel. Even with the underwhelming middle compared to the first couple of bites, I will eat the full four pack I got no problem! Overall, Barebells Caramel Cashew is the best of the roundup!!
